RESHAPING OUR CITIES WITH AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES
Autonomous vehicles will completely change the way we live and work in our communities. This groundbreaking technology will save lives, create jobs, and offer a more efficient lifestyle for American citizens, and Senator Brandes has long led the fight in the Florida legislature to make self-driving cars a reality for all of us.
We are on the verge of a road-safety revolution more important than the implementation of the seatbelt. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, 37,461 traffic-related deaths occurred in the U.S. in 2017. With autonomous vehicles, researchers estimate traffic fatalities can fall by up to 90%. This means nearly 30,000 lives saved every year. As a father of four children, Jeff Brandes is leading the fight for a safer future for our kids and grandkids with self-driving cars.
A 2017 report found that autonomous vehicles will add as much as $2 trillion to the U.S. economy by 2050. To bring self-driving cars to market, manufacturers are hiring more data specialists, IT workers and, specialized mechanics. Senator Brandes has worked to bring these high-paying jobs to our community and helped secure grant funding for continued research in connected vehicle technology.
Paving The Way
Legislation Senator Brandes sponsored in 2012 made Florida the 2nd state in the nation to allow autonomous vehicle technology to operate on roadways. Since the passage of his bill, Florida has become the place to test autonomous vehicles and connected technology, with the Tampa Bay Area experiencing the biggest boost in autonomous activity.
